
You can control what page is presented when you first start Chrome. Set a new tab pageĪn alternative to adding the extension is to modify the new start page. This is an excellent way to remove those new tab page thumbnails from view. You won’t see the search box in the center or anything at all so don’t be surprised if you’re presented with a purely blank screen.

Using this extension, you should see a blank web page when you open a new tab.

Next to the file location under “Type the location of the item”, add the parameter -autoplay-policy=user-required. It should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe. In the next screen, click the “Browse…” button and find Chrome’s exe. Right-click your desktop and choose “New > Shortcut”. If you have reason to be more aggressive, such as a data cap, there are no Chrome flags autoplay settings anymore, but you can halt them via a desktop shortcut.
